Avalanche warning for region Indre Troms Wednesday 27.03.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
There is a persistant weak layer deep within the snowpack. Triggering an avalanche on this layer is unlikely, but the consequences would be serious. Steep south facing slopes may see some sluffing if the sun melts the snow surface.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow above a crust

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 26. March 2024

Mountain weather

Tuesday 26. March 2024

Little to no precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast. -17 °C to -9 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Wednesday 27. March 2024

1-4 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -15 °C to -7 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Det kan vere mogleg å løyse ut skred på vedvarande svake lag. Det skal truleg ein del til, men om ein gjer det kan skred bli store.

I bratte solvendte sider kan det gå nokre laussnøskred på formiddagen.
